Your eID is an alphanumeric set of characters. Your eID is not your student or employee number (also known as your V-number, vID, or Banner number).
The VCU eID is the username used, along with a corresponding eID password, to you to access VCU resources such as myVCU Portal, VCU Mail, Canvas, VCU Libraries resources, VCU SafeNet and other central and departmental applications.
The VCU eID vision is to provide all VCU affiliates with authenticated secure access to the information they need through the web using a simple, single sign-on process.
Most VCU resources, however, that use the eID for authorization purposes will deny access to users who are no longer affiliated with VCU Former students that have not been affiliated with VCU since 2006 may not have an eID assigned and will not have access to eServices. Students without eIDs will have to contact Records and Registration to get access to their academic records.
eID Account Claim

You will need 2 out of the 3 items of information to verify your identity in order to Claim your Account:
- VNumber OR VCUCard Number
AND
- Birthdate
The Banner ID is also known as the VNumber. The VCUCard number is the 16-digit number on your physical VCUCard. You may not have VNumber if you are a VCU Health System employee, in that case, please use the 16-digit number on your badge.
As of January 29th, 2019, with the 'Go Live' of the new Identity & Access Management (IAM) System, all new and existing users must complete a one-time eID claim. For existing users, you will be prompted to claim your eID via CAS login when your password is about to expire within 14 days or upon password reset request.
eID Account Claim will activate your eID and create a new password in the IAM system. You will also be required to provide a personal email and/or Mobile number for future self-service password reset
Only after VCU eID Account Claim process, you can access your eID Management Portal
eID Management portal allows you to:
Option1. Add/update your personal email and mobile number for self-service password reset for future.
Option 2. Reset your current eID password
Self-Service password reset will allow you to reset your forgotten password anytime by receiving a temporary PIN to your mobile phone or personal email. Please provide a personal email and/or mobile phone number, so you can reset your password any time by sending yourself a PIN.
To add or update a mobile phone number and/or personal email address, log in to eID Management Portal and select the "My Profile" tab
Note: Temporary PIN will expire after 30 min. You can request for another PIN in that case.
If you do not know or forgot your eID, you can recover your eID.

There are two options for resetting your password:
- Reset your known Password: Select the "Password Management" tab at the top of the page after logging to your eID Management Portal (you will be required to log in with your current password).
- Forgot your password: Request a PIN sent to your recovery email and/or mobile number
