Move/Reboot/Reset an Avaya 4600 Set

NOTE

IN ORDER TO INSURE ANY FUTURE SERVICE CALLS ARE DISPATCHED TO YOUR NEW LOCATION, IF YOU MOVE YOUR SET YOURSELF PLEASE CONTACT VCU TELECOM AT 828-4331.  

The instructions listed below can be used to move your 4600 series set to another location that is equipped for 4600 series sets.  However, if we need to dispatch a technician to correct any errors you will be charged $150.00.  You can submit a request for VCU Telecommunications to move your set for $25.00/set.



  1. Log-Off if moving the set to a new location that is equipped with a computer jack.
    1. Press the Options button.
    2. Look for the "Log-off" option on the display. If not in the window press the Page Right key until it appears
    3. Press the "Log-off" feature button
    4. Press "yes" when prompted "Do You Want to Log Off"?
  2. Unplug the phone from the computer jack.
  3. Plug the phone into the computer jack at its new location. (computer plugs into the back of the phone)
  4. As the telephone begins to reboot
    1. Watch the display for the prompt press * to program.
    2. Press *
    3. Press the # key seven (7) times 
  5. Display will prompt for the VLAN ID.
    1. Enter (4 digit VLAN ID) and press the # key.
  6. Display will read VLANTEST=0, press the # key.
  7. Display will prompt Save New Values?
    1. Press # for yes
    2. Display will read Restarting…
  8. When reboot is complete the display will read “Avaya 46XX IP Telephone with a prompt to Enter Extension and Press #”.
    1. Enter your 5-digit extension and press #
    2. Display will prompt Enter Password (password is your 5 digit extension) and Press #

If The Reset/Reboot Process does Not Work

  1. Press the “Mute” button
  2. Enter 73738 (spells RESET) on the telephone keypad
  3. Press the # key
  4. At the Reset Values prompt, press the # key (for a Yes response)
  5. At the Are you sure prompt, press the # key (for Yes response)
    • You will hear a tone and the message waiting light will flicker.
    • The telephone begins the reboot cycle.
  6. Go to step 1 at the top of the page and proceed through 5.3 to complete the reboot/reset process.
