Students and faculty who wish to purchase Adobe software for personal use may order the software through the following vendors at an education discount. 

 

VCU Departmental Purchase:

Faculty and staff purchasing software with university funds should use the established VIP or CLP Agreement for all acquisitions. There is a substantial saving when purchasing through the established agreements. 

Many departments and schools have established their own Adobe VIP (Value Incentive Plan) Agreement for Creative Cloud subscriptions, and VCU has established the Adobe CLP (Cumulative Licensing Program) Agreement for the purchase of Adobe desktop perpetual licenses. Adobe VIP Agreement (Cloud Subscriptions)

The Adobe VIP Agreement provides discount prices for a subscription to Creative Cloud applications, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Acrobat DC, etc. A perpetual license is available for Acrobat Pro DC under the CLP Agreement. Adobe VIP agreements have been set up for number of schools and departments at VCU, which are listed here. Check with the contact listed to place a VIP order from an authorized Adobe VIP vendor. Contact the IT Service Management Office at softwarelice@vcu.edu if you need assistance or your department is not listed.


VIP Subscription Types:

Creative Cloud applications are updated on a regular basis, providing the user with the latest version. Subscriptions may be purchased by application or as a complete Creative Cloud Suite. Adobe provides two types of Cloud licenses, named user license and device license. Please specify the type of license subscription you wish purchase.

Named User License - The license is assigned to the a named users. The named user may install the software on two computer and access both at the same time. An Internet connection is required to activate the license and to connect every 99 days to maintain an active account. The license provides you with all the latest mobile apps, file sharing and syncing, 24/7 tech support, etc.

Device License - The license is ideal for desktop computing labs and classroom computers. This license is assigned to the computer and may not be accessed from multiple locations. The device license will cost less than a named user license.

To purchase under the VIP agreement, you must obtain a quote from an authorized Adobe VIP vendor. Provide the vendor with the VIP Contract Name (i.e., VCU - Technology Services, etc.) and VIP Agreement Number to confirm you qualify for VIP pricing. Include the VIP information (agreement name and number) and the requester’s name and email on your purchase requisition. Upon payment, Adobe will add the Cloud license to the VIP Portal, and the Primary Admin of the account will be notified by email. The VIP Admin will then assign the license to the requester.

Adobe VIP agreements are issued for one year and each has its own renewal date. There is a 30 day grace period beyond the renewal date. A request for purchase may be made anytime within contract year, and will be prorated based on the renewal date. All Cloud license will be available for a one year renewal upon approval from the VIP Admin on the renewal date. It is the responsibility of the VIP Admin to confirm that all licenses will need to be maintained prior to renewal date. A license may be reassigned to another named user by the VIP Admin, if the named user leaves the university or is no longer in need of the application.

 

Adobe CLP Agreement (Perpetual Licenses)

One Adobe CLP Agreement has been established for VCU, which provides an education discount price for Adobe products with a perpetual license such as Acrobat, Captivate, RoboHelp, etc. To secure a CLP contract price quote, provide your vendor with the CLP contract name and number, VA - Virginia Commonwealth University and the contact number, which is available through your Adobe VIP Admin or contact the IT Service Management Office at softwarelic@vcu.edu. Include the CLP contract number on the requisition at the time of purchase, and the name and email of the license recipient(s).

Upon receipt of payment, Adobe will send an email to the requester providing the download information and license code. Multiple license requests should be directed to all by the recipient of the email. The license will be valid for the life of the product and serial number should be stored in a safe place. Download assistance may be provided by your technical support team.

How do I purchase an Adobe Cloud subscription.
Adobe provides students a price of  $239.88 per year of your Creative Cloud subscription. thinkEDU typically offers a better price on the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Check out both prices before you place our order. As long as you maintain your VCU affiliation, the discount price will be available. Refer to the vendors listed under the Purchasing tab.

How do I get the best price for Adobe products?
VCU qualifies for the Adobe VIP (Value Incentive Plan) purchasing program providing subscription Cloud licenses at a Tier 4 (100+) discount price. Perpetual software licenses are purchased under the CLP (Cumulative Licensing Program) Agreement. Many schools and departments at VCU have established a VIP Agreement with Adobe for Cloud application subscriptions. The CLP Agreement covers all Adobe perpetual license purchases at VCU. Please check with the VCU Adobe Administrator within your department to secure a VIP and CLP quote from an authorized vendor. How do I know if my department or school has an Adobe VIP agreement?
Many VCU schools and departments have established an Adobe VIP Agreement. A list of all the established VIP Agreements and contacts are listed here. Contact the IT Service Management Office at softwarelic@vcu.edu if you don't see your department listed and need assistance establishing an Adobe VIP Agreement.

How do I purchase a subscription a to Creative Cloud application?
To purchase a Creative Cloud application or suite subscription, reach out to your departmental Adobe VIP Administrator to secure a VIP price quote from an authorized VIP vendor. The VIP Agreement name and number must be given to the vendor to receive a VIP price quote. Creative Cloud subscriptions are available as a named user license or device (labs and classrooms) license. Specify the type of cloud license you wish to purchase and the application or suite desired. Upon payment, Adobe will make the application available in the VIP Account Portal to the account admin, who will then assign the application to the named user or device. It is important to maintain communication with your VIP Account Admin throughout the acquisition process.

Can I purchase a perpetual license under the VIP Agreement?
No, only Adobe Cloud application subscriptions may be purchased under the VIP Agreement, which includes the entire Adobe Creative product line. Acrobat is available through a Cloud subscription or the purchase of a perpetual license, if you are not concerned about continuous upgrades. Other products such as Captivate, ColdFusion, RoboHelp, etc. are available as a perpetual license purchase.

How do I purchase a perpetual license for an Adobe application?
An Adobe perpetual license is ordered under the CLP (Cumulative Licensing Program) Agreement. There are only a few Adobe products available for purchase with a perpetual license. Reach out to your departmental Adobe VIP Administrator to secure a CLP price quote for the perpetual license from an authorized Adobe CLP vendor. Upon payment, an email with the download information and license code will be sent to you. Contact the IT Service Management Office at softwarelic@vcu.edu if you have questions regarding a CLP order or need the contract number.

How does the VCU Adobe Admin process a VIP purchase request?
You must provide the VIP Account Name (i.e., Virginia Commonwealth University - Technology Services, etc.) and VIP Number to an Adobe VIP authorized vendor to secure a VIP quote. The quote should reflect VIP Tier 4 pricing. Include the VIP Account Name and Number on the purchase requisition, and that you are requesting a device or named user license. Specify the device or the name of the person who will receive the license. Upon receiving payment, Adobe will make the application available to you in the VIP account Portal. You, as the VIP Admin, must assign the application to the device or named user.

How does the VCU Adobe Admin process a purchase for an Adobe application with a perpetual license?
An Adobe perpetual license is ordered under the CLP (Cumulative Licensing Program) Agreement. There are only a few Adobe products available for purchase with a perpetual license. You must contact an authorized CLP vendor and provided the account name, VA-Virginia Commonwealth University CLP Agreement, and the contract number. VA-Virginia Commonwealth University CLP Agreement and the contract number must be documented on the purchase requisition along with the name and email of the named user. Upon payment, the email download information and license code will be sent to the specified named user. Contact the IT Service Management Office at softwarelic@vcu.edu if you need the VCU CLP Agreement number or assistance with the process.

Does Adobe provide a grace period for VIP subscriptions?
Yes. Subscription under the VIP agreement must be renewed annually on or before the designated renewal date. Adobe provides a 30 day grace period beyond the renewal date for all license renewals. An invoice is sent to the VIP account admin approximately 30 days before the renewal day.

How do I change the name of a VIP account?
Only the Primary Admin can request a change in the name of the VIP account. The Primary Admin must ask the vendor who set up the account to submit a name change request to Adobe on your behalf.

How do I establish an Adobe VIP account if my department does not have one?
Contact the IT Service Management Office at softwarelic@vcu.edu to request assistance establishing an Adobe VIP account. After an Adobe VIP Agreement is created it must be added to the VCU Adobe Linked Membership. We need to submit a request to add the new VIP Agreement. It may take a up to a few months before you qualify for a Level 4 discount. Please plan ahead to ensure that the Level 4 discount will be in place before you place your order.

There are Adobe training resources available to expand your knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud. Adobe provides troubleshooting and support resources for all their products. VCU provides Adobe tutorials through lynda.vcu.edu. Lynda offers a wide range of videos to meet your professional goals.
