How do I troubleshoot a Sophos Installation Failure?

Step 1 Click on the Start button on your computer, then click on Control Panel.

Step 2 Click on Add or Remove Programs. It might also look like an icon like this:

Step 3    Look for an anti-virus program on this list. The most common ones you may find are:
  • Symantec
  • Norton
  • MacAfee
  • PC-Cillin
  • BitDefender
  • Kaspersky
  • G-Data
If you find an anti-virus program, remove it, restart your computer, and reinstall Sophos. This should take care of the problem.

Step 4  If you did not find any anti-virus software, do a search for this file: Sophos Anti-Virus competitor list.txt. If you find this file save a copy of it to your desktop.
  • Right click start menu and select Search.

  • Enter Sophos Anti-Virus competitor list.txt in the file name and select C drive then Search.

  •   When the search finishes, double click on the file found in the search to open it.

  • Click on File and then Save and save the file to your desktop.

Step 5Reinstall the anti-virus software you were using before and call the VCU IT Support Center at 804-8282227.

Step 6 The VCU IT Support Center will want a copy of the “Sophos Anti-Virus competitor list.txt” sent to them. Once you call them, they will create a service request and someone will tell you when and where to send the file.

Step 7 Technology Services will work with you to resolve why Sophos could not get installed.
