What is a PUA/Adware file?

PUA

A PUA is a Potentially Unwanted Application.  It may be an application found on your computer, such as WeatherBug.  It could be a malicious hacking tool downloaded to your computer or spyware, but could also be a program you installed and want to run on your computer.  Sophos Anti-Virus recognizes it as a potentially malicious program and sends an alert.  These types of programs are pretty uncommon which means you will only occasionally see alerts for PUAs.

Adware

Adware is normally installed with other applications.  This type of software can slow down the computer and will pass on personal information to a third party. Adware applications include AOL Instant Messenger, WeatherBug, Yahoo! Messenger and others.
