This is the preliminary (or launch) version of the 2021-2022 VCU Bulletin. This edition includes all programs and courses approved by the publication deadline; however we may receive notification of additional program approvals after the launch. The final edition and full PDF version will include these updates and will be available in August prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

The post-baccalaureate graduate Certificate in Online Teaching for K-12 Educators is a 17-credit-hour certificate designed to prepare candidates to develop and facilitate effective online instruction in K-12 environments. The goals for the certificate are to:
- Expand on participants’ current teaching expertise in instructional strategies, curriculum design, and assessment and evaluation to adapt to fully online and hybrid teaching environments
- Foster the development of instructional leaders who can model and articulate best practices in online teaching within K-12 environments
Student learning outcomes
- Demonstrate effective electronic communication methods for instruction in the K-12 environment
- Reflect on current research and standards for online/blended course design/facilitation and articulate a personal philosophy of practice in these areas
- Demonstrate effective virtual systematic instructional design through the development of a virtual learning environment
- Demonstrate effective facilitation of virtual instruction, including employment of techniques to encourage discussion, development of policies and procedures for digital communications and online conflict moderation, and use of effective virtual tools to improve learning
- Demonstrate knowledge of effective strategies for assessment and evaluations in online environments through the development of rubrics and alternative assessment tools
- Demonstrate knowledge of TPACK framework in designing instruction with appropriate virtual tools
- Demonstrate knowledge of online time and course management through the development of policies and procedures to assist online learners with these issues and the development of appropriate materials that reflect effective time and course management by the course facilitator
VCU Graduate Bulletin, VCU Graduate School and general academic policies and regulations for all graduate students in all graduate programs
The VCU Graduate Bulletin website documents the official admission and academic rules and regulations that govern graduate education for all graduate programs at the university. These policies are established by the graduate faculty of the university through their elected representatives to the University Graduate Council.
It is the responsibility of all graduate students, both on- and off-campus, to be familiar with the VCU Graduate Bulletin as well as the Graduate School website and academic regulations in individual school and department publications and on program websites. However, in all cases, the official policies and procedures of the University Graduate Council, as published on the VCU Graduate Bulletin and Graduate School websites, take precedence over individual program policies and guidelines.

As graduate students approach the end of their academic programs and the final semester of matriculation, they must make formal application to graduate. No degrees will be conferred until the application to graduate has been finalized.
