On Saturday, October 13, the Department of African American Studies will present a screening of the documentary Dark Girls, followed by a panel discussion. The panel will include D. Channsin Berry, one of the creators of Dark Girls and the director of the upcoming Dark Girls 2, and actress Serayah Ranee McNeill, who has appeared on the hit Fox series Empire.
Dark Girls explores the intersection of color, gender, and race and the ways that racism and colorism impact the lives of contemporary dark-skinned women.
The screening will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 13 in the Singleton Center music hall (922 Park Avenue). The panel discussion will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
This event is sponsored by the Department of African American Studies, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, the Department of Psychology, the Department of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies, and Girls for a Change.
