My work is a constant evolution that tries to understand the women that came before me, not to judge their unique situations and societal pressures, but to showcase how women’s ‘labors of love’ have changed over time. Many women, including my grandmother, made their homes their occupations and took great pride in this. Before I started this project, I thought that women who were placed or decided to take on this roll where being controlled under patriarchal pressure. I have found that many women find purpose and satisfaction in their domestic duties. In addition, I found that many use their duties as a creative outlet that is both utilitarian and expressive. My goal is to continue to understand my family’s history and the distinct and changing role of women through sculptural exploration.
