Your place for deep inquiry and artistic exploration.

VCUarts has earned a reputation as one of the top schools of arts and design in the country. Our graduate programs attract students of the highest caliber from around the world, inviting them to join a community with a passion for interdisciplinary and experimental inquiry.

You’ll learn from a community of intellectually curious faculty who are recognized nationally and internationally for their artistic, research and scholarship achievements. But they never lose sight of their role in mentoring the next generation of creative visionaries.

You’ll also have access to comprehensive facilities that include metal and wood workshops, performance venues, glassblowing and ceramics, a motion capture studio, a cyc wall and green screen, letterpress studio, and so much more. Graduate students in many disciplines also benefit from private studios.

Location matters

The VCUarts experience is focused on an energized immersion in the creative culture of Richmond, Virginia—one of the region’s most culturally vibrant cities and a key part of the graduate experience. The city is home to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which holds one of the country’s top public collections; The Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU, which serves as a bridge between between VCUarts and the broader arts community; and numerous galleries and performing arts galleries. It’s also a quick trip to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, and endless museums, libraries and research facilities along the East Coast.
