Martha Curtis is a professor emerita of Dance + Choreography. A dancer, teacher, choreographer, video producer and director, she served from 1996–2006 as chair of the dance program. Curtis began her professional dance career by performing for six years with the New York-based Pauline Koner Dance Company, while serving as assistant to Pauline Koner. She has also performed in works by Jose Limón, Sharon Kinney, Rachel Harms, Doug Varone, Li Chiao-Ping, Chris Burnside, Melanie Richards, Kim Arrow, Susan Van Pelt, Ruth Solomon, Roger Tolle and Dan Froot. She received one of the first choreographer’s fellowships from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and her choreography has been selected for showcases throughout the United States. She has choreographed, produced and directed videodance works collaboratively with Bruce Berryhill since the 1990s, which have been broadcast on national and international television.
