The M.S. concentration in genomics builds on the master’s curriculum with additional classes and experience in genomic data analysis.
Coursework covers recent developments in microarray data analysis, data mining/machine learning and sequence analysis.
Research in those areas yield an enormous amount of data — specifically in DNA sequencing, microarrays and proteomic studies — that require statisticians to rethink analytical strategies.
Students work with several genomics specialists during the program.
Admission and exam requirements are identical to that of the M.S. program. Applicants often have a biology or basic health sciences background, though it is not required.
Priority is given to applications received by Jan. 8 prior to the fall semester of enrollment.
In addition to the M.S. degree requirements, the genomics concentration requires out-of-track electives in biochemistry, molecular biology or genetics.
