Alumnae Share Career Experiences

A love of math and statistics laid a foundation for diverse, engagingly challenging, meaningful and rewarding careers.

In the School of Medicine's 12th and Marshall publication, five biostatistics alumnae share what they like about their careers in a feature story "Women who led the way".  In a companion story, they also share 8 guiding principles for success.  Featured are:

  • Jenna Elder (PhD, 1996)
  • Chris Gennings (PhD, 1986)
  • Janis Goodlow Grechko, PhD’84
  • Sally Hunsberger, PhD’90
  • Anne Lindblad, MS’81

The first woman to earn a master’s from the VCU Department of Biostatistics graduated in 1973 and the first to earn a Ph.D. graduated in 1984; today women represent more than half of the 39 part- and full-time students pursuing studies in the department’s three M.S. and two Ph.D. programs.
