VCU’s College of Humanities and Sciences is the foundation of educational and intellectual life at Virginia Commonwealth University, and houses the core disciplines in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. We are also the largest unit at VCU; nearly 60% of VCU undergraduates have at least one major in the College.
As educators, we strive to inspire our students to explore their passions, and provide the context to understand their place in the world and connections with others.
Here are four distinguishing characteristics of the College’s stellar academic program:
We have it all, from the hard sciences to the liberal arts. With almost 60 majors and minors, we know you’ll find your niche … or three.
We want you to succeed academically. To ensure you get all the support you need, the College offers a unique adviser program. With more than 20 advisors assigned throughout our departments and schools, there will always be someone cheering you on and answering any questions you might have about your academic journey.
Meet the core CHS advising staff. (Other advisers are located within our various units.)
Always wanted to travel abroad while a student? Have an idea for an interesting research project? Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. We want every student to have an academic experience that involves hands-on learning activities directly relevant to realizing their personal and professional goals. We even have special funds set aside to help you accomplish that.
