College of Engineering

The College of Engineering was state-sanctioned in 1996 and stands as a remarkable example of public-private partnership. The college currently comprises five departments – biomedical engineering, chemical and life science engineering, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical and nuclear engineering. The college is projected to have an undergraduate enrollment of 2000 and a graduate student enrollment of 500 with a faculty of 115 by 2020. The college’s strategic plan places particular emphasis on the growth of basic and applied research related to six areas of multi-disciplinary research including: sustainability and energy engineering, micro and nano electronic systems, pharmaceutical engineering, mechanobiology and regenerative medicine, security and mining of big data, and device design and development. The University’s support of the exceptional growth goals for the college of Engineering is opening many opportunities in new faculty positions and in our support departments. Our engineering faculty collaborates with faculty in other VCU Schools including: Medicine, Dentistry, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Life Sciences, Art and Business.
