Overview

One of the unique and exciting features of family medicine at VCU is that our programs are not attached to our large tertiary medical center, but are unique and individualized sites around the state of Virginia. Each program trains its graduates to practice across the full spectrum of potential practice sites, but we have programs that appeal to a wide variety of students with individual personal interests. Do you want to be a rural doctor with the joys associated with life in a small town? Then the Shenandoah residency or the St. Francis-Blackstone rural residency track is the place for you. Are you looking for a suburban practice close to a major metropolitan area? Our Fairfax and Riverside programs fit the bill. In addition, residents in the St. Francis program enjoy a suburban southern community just outside the state capital. All of our programs provide strong academics, committed faculty and exciting colleagues, and each has a unique personality and setting.
