Director of Parking and Transportation

Reports to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management.

About the position

The Parking and Transportation department supports the University’s mission by providing safe, convenient, and well-maintained parking and transit services, while promoting and facilitating alternative modes of transportation. Our services maximize campus access through financially and environmentally sustainable practices, superior customer service, and professional management. Current parking inventory for the Monroe and MCV Campuses includes 18 decks with approximately 10,025 spaces, and 45 surface parking lots with 3,225 spaces.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, the Director of Parking and Transportation provides leadership and direct oversight of the University’s parking, transportation, and fleet management programs. This includes proactively managing all parking assignments, decks and related  facilities, shuttle services, vanpool, carpool, and numerous and growing alternative transportation programs. This position will be responsible for managing fleet services through the Virginia Department of General Services. The current fleet is comprised of approximately 250 vehicles.

The Director will provide organizational leadership, fiscal operations support, business management, and policy development that aligns with the goals and priorities of the University. Duties will include managing the departmental budget of approximately $18 million, budget projections, and in conjunction with the Procurement Department, overseeing vendor relationships to include contract negotiations and reviews for other functional areas.

As a part of the leadership team in Facilities Management, the Director will work closely with Planning and Design, Financial Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Construction Management, Staff Operations, University Police, and the Executive Director of Physical Plant. This position will supervise a team of 51 full-time and 29 hourly employees. Much of the operations of this department are scheduled and supported on a 365/24/7 basis, requiring early mornings, nights, and weekends.
