Carol Ann Lawson
Director of strategic initiatives
Carol Ann currently serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives in VCU Human Resources and leads the VCU Executive Search Team. Prior to joining VCU HR and helping to build the Executive Search function in 2019, Carol Ann has had a thirteen year career in human resources with an emphasis on leading search and hiring processes. Her experience has always focused on helping identify highly qualified executives and professionals who embody VCU’s mission and values.
Carol Ann is passionate about VCU and everything it does for its students, faculty, staff, and the community. The genuine diversity, equity, and inclusion of VCU are what she is most passionate about. Utilizing that passion, she and her team have built an internal search program with a unique VCU focus and a high degree of professionalism and candidate care.
Carol Ann received her BS in Sociology and MS in Business with a concentration in HR Management from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a graduate of VCU’s Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute and is SHRM-SCP and SPHR certified. She serves as the President-elect in Richmond’s SHRM’s Board of Directors.
Talent acquisition consultant and recruiter
Tanya Giscombe serves as a talent acquisition consultant for the VCU Executive Search Team. Tanya has 18+ years of diverse Human Resources experience with particular emphasis in Talent Management and Recruitment. Tanya’s background is rich in finding exceptional talent and implementing strategic talent management solutions for esteemed national/global corporate manufacturing organizations as well as state government.
Prior to joining VCU, Tanya served as HR Business Partner with Virginia Department of Emergency Management. While there, she successfully managed the Talent Management program and implemented a comprehensive talent strategy that aligned with the agency’s business objectives and encouraged a highly engaged and valued workforce.
Tanya-Lee holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a minor in Human Resources Management from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BS in Political Science from Virginia State University. She is SHRM-CP certified and an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as well as College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA).
Talent strategy associate
Celia O’Hallahan serves as the talent strategy associate for the VCU Executive Search Team. Celia provides high-touch support for VCU and candidates through the full-cycle recruitment process. Celia’s passion is providing a superior customer service experience to candidates while accompanying them throughout their campus visits. She enjoys providing candidates with an opportunity to get to know VCU’s campus culture and to experience the RAM pride that gives VCU it’s unique charm.
Prior to joining the Executive Search Team, Celia worked in the human services field as a counselor. Celia also previously served as an Account Manager, where she played an integral role in developing a new company’s clientele from the ground up, establishing the company’s presence in the Richmond, Virginia area.
Celia received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in August of 2017.
Talent acquisition coordinator
Lauren Guthrie serves as the talent acquisition coordinator for the VCU Executive Search Team. Lauren is passionate about ensuring that anyone who works with the Executive Search Team has a first-rate experience, and she elevates and enriches the candidate’s experience as they move through the hiring process. In HR, Lauren has been granted the opportunity to share VCU’s staff, students and culture with prospective candidates.
Lauren began her career in VCU Human Resources Operations. Prior to working at VCU, Lauren worked for Henrico County Public Schools, where she assisted with the progression of children’s social and educational development.
Lauren is currently earning her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Beverly is the program manager for Career Development with VCU Division of Human Resources. Beverly specializes in the post-hire stage of the talent spectrum, ensuring that once employees are hired they have opportunities for engagement and career growth. She has been with the university since 2001, serving in various leadership roles across the university, spending her years of service in the Division of Student Affairs and Human Resources. In her current role, she is responsible for leading the efforts of developing a career development program at the university, promoting the importance of employee development and growth.
Beverly is a graduate of VCU’s Grace E. Harris’ Higher Ground program and a certified Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). She received a B.S. degree from Virginia State University and an M.Ed. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
