BLACKBOARD to CANVAS TRANSITION

Important Dates and Details to Be Aware of:

  • March 31, 2021
    • The final day organization leaders could export organization content from Blackboard. Email canvas@vcu.edu for assistance.
  • May 31, 2021
    • The final day for faculty to export course content from Blackboard.
    • Note: You can import your content into Canvas at your own convenience; there is no deadline to do this.
  • Summer 2021
    • Starting with the academic summer 2021 semester online courses and active organizations will use Canvas only
    • As of May 31, 2021, Blackboard will not be available.

Important Resource - Pack Your Bags; VCU is Moving to Canvas


Deadline for having all content out of Blackboard is May 31, 2021

  • Blackboard content will NOT be available at all after May 31, 2021.

  • You will NOT be able to login to Blackboard after May 31, 2021.

  • Do not wait until you are ready to teach in Fall 2021 and beyond - you cannot view, copy or export any content from Blackboard.

  • Teaching in Canvas:  All courses
  • System administration export of remaining Blackboard content
  • Critical Dates:
    • May 31, 2021 - All classes will use Canvas starting Summer 2021 (no courses will be taught in Blackboard after May 31, 2021)

    • June 30, 2021 - Blackboard removed from service and  no longer available
