A Message from our Chair

VCU’s Department of Neurosurgery has a longstanding reputation of providing compassionate patient care, conducting innovative, impactful research and training the next generation of neurosurgeons through comprehensive, unique learning opportunities.

Residents and attendings work side-by-side in an environment that’s built on mutual respect, trust and collegiality across multiple disciplines.

As action-oriented physicians and scientists who aren’t afraid of hard work, we strive to build upon the 100-year legacy of our department and continue to shape the future of neurosurgery.

Alex B. Valadka, M.D.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We’re proud to treat a diverse population of patients in the Richmond area, many of whom are critically ill and from historically disadvantaged groups. As educators, clinicians, researchers and colleagues, we reaffirm the core values of human dignity and of mutual, unconditional respect, and we acknowledge our responsibility to condemn racism and all forms of discrimination.Visit the School of Medicine’s DEI page
