Continuing Education Program
Who are we
Our team consists of VCU faculty and alumni from the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling in the College of Health Professions (ranked 4th among masters level rehabilitation and mental health counseling training programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report), as well as other dedicated rehabilitation, mental health and addiction professionals from the Greater Richmond community. Together, these experienced professionals have compiled recent translational research and focused content into a wide selection of offerings to bolster your continuing education as behavioral health professionals.
This continuing education activity is accepted by the Virginia Board of Counseling through VCU affiliation.
Target audience
The Virginia Board of Counseling maintains annual continuing education requirements for the following groups. The continuing education modules offered through VCU are specifically targeted toward professionals working in these capacities, but are also open to professionals in the law enforcement, education and health care fields; some may be appropriate for families and community members.
- Virginia Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP-A and QMHP-C)
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselors (CSAC)
- Residents in Counseling
- Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC)
- Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP)
The Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Counseling has varying requirements for continuing education for the groups listed above. In some circumstances, the number of required hours of continuing education increased from previous iterations of board policy.
