Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology, with a concentration in oral biology

This MS degree is a two-year program with students completing one year of formal coursework, before conducting an original research project under the supervision of a faculty advisor culminating in an oral defense of their thesis. Graduates of our Master's programs can be competitive for further academic training (i.e. Ph.D. or D.D.S. Programs), or may pursue laboratory research positions in academia or industry, or job opportunities in education or industry

The Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology, with a concentration in oral biology, gives students a broad knowledge base that is essential for understanding biomedical disease and develops their understanding of oral diseases with a particular focus on cancer, infection and immunology and clinical specialties.

Curricula and research opportunities will be individually tailored for one of three possible career paths, admission into a D.D.S program, admission into a Ph.D. program or applying for a position in a health sciences research laboratory

The program emphasizes independent research with opportunities in the fields of cancer, microbiology and immunology, tissue engineering, health disparities and clinical dentistry

The curriculum consists of graduate core basic science courses; oral health sciences core courses and advanced elective courses. The specific curriculum for each student is designed with the student's academic advisor, in consultation with the Oral Health Research Program Committee.
