This research consortium works to develop and test new rehabilitation intervention strategies to improve functional abilities and health.

With several grant awards from the National Institutes of Health, we have conducted clinical trials on virtual reality interventions that improve mobility and reduce pain.

Our goal is to be the virtual reality and gaming research hub for interdisciplinary research across VCU and the VAMC.

Trost awarded $3.7M to examine virtual reality as an intervention for pain

Zina Trost, Ph.D., has been awarded a $3.7 million Department of Defense grant to examine the impact of an immersive virtual reality walking intervention on chronic neuropathic pain among paraplegic individuals with spinal cord injury. Study findings will help improve the lives of individuals with chronic neuropathic pain.

Thomas awarded $500K to study virtual reality as a treatment for back pain

James Thomas, Ph.D., P.T., has been awarded over $500K for a study to determine the efficacy of a nine-week course of treatment of virtual dodgeball to reduce pain and disability for individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP).
