Academic transformation expert visits VCU

Recently we were opportune to host Carolyn Jarmon, Ph.D., vice president of The National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT) for a campus visit to select academic units and an open forum titled "Addressing Traditional Tradeoffs: The Case for Course Redesign.” Dr. Jarmon specifically addressed the role of course redesign in student success and discussed how NCAT uses well-tested methods to improve student learning and reduce instructional costs.

Dr. Jarmon went over the principles of course redesign, focusing on issues of curriculum and pedagogy, assessment, evaluation and implementation. Her visit and open forum helped to kick start discussions of course redesign and transformation at VCU. As part of our focus on student success, the Office of the Provost is working closely with NCAT to employ course redesign strategies to improve learning outcomes and reduce student costs.

If you were not able to attend the open forum, you can view Dr. Jarmon’s presentation online (requires a valid VCU eID to view).

We look forward to continued conversations on this topic and always welcome your feedback and thoughts at
