Classroom Experiences of Faculty of Color

Please join Dr. Chavella T. Pittman as she shares research on the teaching experiences of faculty of color. Participants will also learn the student and faculty costs of these teaching experiences. At the end of the talk, participants should have several ideas of how to navigate and/or address these dynamics.

Dr. Pittman completed both a PhD in Sociology and a MA in Higher Education at the University of Michigan. Her research interests and expertise include higher education, interpersonal interactions & marginalized statuses. Some of her teaching publications include “Addressing Incivility in the Classroom: Effective Strategies for Faculty at the Margins" (Difficult Subjects 2018) and "Race and Gender Oppression in the Classroom: The Experiences of Women Faculty of Color with White Male Students” (Teaching Sociology 2010).
