Summer camps for students

HomeCommunity engagement

UPDATED 6/1/2020
Safety is our priority for students that attend a camp or any other activity at Rice Rivers Center. After careful consideration and consultation with VCU leadership, and continued uncertainty with how COVID-19 will present in the upcoming months, we have made the decision to cancel the Rice Rivers Center Go Fish! summer camps. If you have already registered and payment has been submitted, please contact David Hofler at hoplerjrda@vcu.edu

In partnership with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the VCU Outdoor Adventure Program,  the VCU Rice Rivers Center offers summer field courses for middle and high school students.

Go Fish! - cancelled for 2020

Students will learn about fishing, fish biology and aquatic ecosystems in this exciting, week-long day camp. Students will get a chance to cast lures for smallmouth and largemouth bass, stalk wily fish in clear, cool forested streams and angle for a chance at doing battle with bluefish or striped bass. All fishing tackle is provided.  Open to rising 6th grade through rising 9th grade students.

Go Fish! Advanced Class - cancelled for 2020

This advanced class this summer is for older and more experienced campers. This class will have a smaller enrollment than our regular Go Fish week. The small class size will allow for more diverse fishing destinations. In addition to our most popular destinations, students will get a chance to fish for mountain trout and a variety of saltwater species. All gear is provided. Open to rising 9th graders and older.

Dates: August 3 - 7, 2020
