B.S. Ed. in Elementary Education and Teaching

 
The B.S.Ed. in Elementary Education and Teaching prepares undergraduate students for roles as teachers of young children in schools, grades kindergarten to six, and community preschool settings. The program focuses on providing students with a solid foundation in child development, educational psychology and the role of the family and society in education. The program prepares graduates to be reflective educators who demonstrate an in-depth understanding of science, social studies and mathematics pedagogy and content, as well as a commitment to balanced literacy approaches. Students will develop skills to advocate for equitable learning opportunities for all children.

Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to teach in diverse classroom settings through purposefully integrated fieldwork and internship experiences.

Practical Experience

• Experiential Learning in each semester throughout all four years of study
• Three practicum experiences:
  • Language Arts
  • Social Studies/Science/Math
  • Literacy Assessment and Remediation
• Full semester of clinical internship (culminating experience) in two locations:
  • One placement in PK-2nd
  • One placement in 3rd-5th
