Dr. Cassandra Barksdale Stanley has over 25 years of experience in K-12 as a teacher, principal and central office administrator. She joined the School of Education in July 2019 after previously serving as supervisor of research and evaluation for Chesapeake Public Schools in Chesapeake, Virginia. She also served several years as supervisor of data reporting, remediation and summer programs in Chesapeake. In addition to K-12 experience, she has many years of experience in higher education as an adjunct instructor. She has taught graduate coursework in research, evaluation and curriculum development for Averett University, The George Washington University, and Regent University.
A native of Halifax County, Virginia, she completed her undergraduate and graduate work at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Her studies continued at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where she earned an educational specialist degree and a doctoral degree.
As the assistant director, Office of Strategic Engagement, Stanley will support the VCU School of Education’s strategic plan by collaborating with local schools and communities to customize professional learning opportunities and to innovatively prepare educators to work in high needs schools. A key focus will be to provide training opportunities on the topics of diversity, equity and inclusion for Black and LatinX school children.
