Why should I consider doing my urology residency at VCU?
Our urology residents are exposed to all urologic sub-specialties and are exceptionally well-prepared to pursue top-notch fellowships or enter community-based independent practice. Current and former residents often consider our program a “hidden gem.” While we may not have a famous name, we send our residents to the best fellowships and ensure our graduates have jobs wherever they want. Our recent two years of graduates are pursuing fellowships in Urologic Oncology at University of Michigan and Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Pediatric Urology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Reconstructive Urology at The Cleveland Clinic.
What are you looking for in a urology resident?
Commitment to urology and a personality fit are the two most important features of our selection process. We understand that urology applicants are inherently a competitive bunch, and most will enter fantastic urology programs around the country. We seek men and women who are open-minded, appreciate a diverse resident cohort and patient population, can work well under the pressures of a surgical residency, and who appreciate humility.
