About UsContact Us
To our Ramily, which includes members of our RVA community where we live and learn together,
We care about you and your well-being, and we are here to support you in both times of ease and difficulty. We especially want to acknowledge and support African-American and Black communities, now and continuously throughout the work we do, because Black lives matter. It is everyone’s universal right to thrive, and learning lifelong skills to enhance one’s well-being can be transformative. We also know that racism and oppression can impact the mental and physical well-being of our Black students and colleagues.
At The Well, we know that well-being doesn’t happen independent of the environments in which we live, learn, play, work and come together. Racism is a public health issue, and the systems in our environments are often built on lack of equity and oppression, better known as institutionalized racism. These systems often decenter the voices and experiences of those with intersecting, marginalized identities. Accessing the tools needed to thrive in one’s health are not always equally available to all. At The Well, we strive to do our part in continuing to change that.
As all of us continue to reflect upon how privilege, power, and complicity impact our shared work and prevent us from realizing our vision of a better world, we must make continuous decisions to pursue meaningful change. At The Well, we embrace the challenge issued by our university president, Dr. Michael Rao, to further the cause of racial justice and promote inclusion and equity.
We look forward to seeing you all again with a renewed sense of hope, as we work to foster a healthier and happier campus community. In the meantime, we are here to support our students and colleagues.
