MathType is the professional version of the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word. It allows you to create complex equations with a simple point and click. MathType works with any word processor, a presentation program (such as Powerpoint), Blackboard, page layout programs, HTML-authorizing tools, and other software, to create equations for research papers, class material, web pages, slide presentations, dissertations and journal articles.
The current release of MathType is version 7.3 for Windows and Mac. MathType 7.3 is compatible with Office 2007 and later, including Office 365 and Word/PowerPoint 2019. It adds a MathType ribbon to Word and PowerPoint. Mathtype also works with over 700 other applications.
VCU has obtained a MathType license that permits 100 faculty/staff and 900 students to subscribe to the software for one year. The license is assigned to the user and may be installed on a VCU computer and personal device by current VCU faculty, staff, and students. MathType is compatible with Microsoft Word and Google Docs on all devices using Windows and Mac.

You may download and install MathType on multiple computers. The software will expire each December and must be renewed annually to maintain an active application.

Note: To enable MathType in Google Docs, open a Google Doc, click on "Add-ons," select "Get add-ons," search for MathType, and add it.
