Dr. Ye is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Commonwealth University. He was a Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). He got the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degree from the Department of Precision Machinery and Precision Instrument, the University of Science and Technology of China,  Hefei, Anhui, P. R. China and Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Hong Kong. He was a Research Fellow at the Mobile Robotics Lab of the University of  Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI. Since 2003, He was a research faculty at the same university. In 2005, he became a faculty member at UALR. Dr. Ye is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, a senior member of IEEE, a member of ACM, and a member of IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Robotics and Intelligent Sensing.

Dr. Ye's group works on creating robots and robotic assistive devices for people with visual/physical disabilities and developing algorithms to allow these robots and devices to interact with their environments, collaborate with the human users in task accomplishments, and learn from the human through interaction with the users. His research aims to improve the quality of life of the disabled and the elderly through the use of co-robots in their daily life. His team is also developing computer vision methods for navigation of autonomous mobile robots/vehicles.
