African American Studies Welcomes New Faculty Member

The Department of African American Studies is excited to welcome a new faculty member. Grace Gipson, PhD will join the department full-time in the coming academic year.

Dr. Gipson received her PhD in African American & African Diaspora Studies/Designated Emphasis in New Media from University of California-Berkeley. Her research interests include Black Popular Culture Studies, Race & New Media, Representations of Race/Gender in Comic Books/Graphic Novels, and Afrofuturism and comic books. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Frederick Douglas Institute for African and African-Studies at the University of Rochester.

When she arrives at VCU, she plans to teach sections of AFAM 111 and AFAM 201.
