New Student Group for African American Studies Students
March 21, 2019
A new student organization, The Black Experience, launched recently. The group is aimed at African American Studies majors and minors, as well as any students who are interested in African American Studies. The organization's faculty advisor is Adam Ewing, PhD.
The president of the organization, Adriane Manigo, provides the following description of the group and its focus: "The Black Experience is a student organization at VCU that is targeted toward African American Studies Majors and Minors, and all others that are interested in the African American Studies Department! The purpose of The Black Experience is to be able to explore and resolve social issues having to do with African Americans, educate students in understanding the experiences of African Americans and others that identify as "Black" people, inform other University students on everything that the African American Studies Department has to offer, and most importantly to develop a strong sense of unity among African American Studies Majors and Minors. Joining the organization will promise an amazing experience as well as a chance to become more involved with the University through the African American Studies Department. The organization has a plethora of goals and vision that we would love as many students as possible to help achieve them!"
