Frequently Asked Questions

The official conferral date for May 2021 degrees is May 22, 2021. Degrees will post to your record on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Degrees will not appear on your academic transcript until this date. Degrees will only show for those students who have satisfied all degree requirements and receive final approval. Check your academic transcript via eServices to ensure your degree has been posted before requesting official transcripts.

Diplomas will be mailed beginning June 28, 2021, to the address provided during graduation checkout. To receive your diploma, you must meet all financial obligations to the university. Diplomas will not be released for those students who have not met their financial obligations. Please contact the Office of Records and Registration at (804) 827-1673 or graduation@vcu.edu once those obligations have been met.

Students will not have to climb stairs to reach the stage. Guests requiring accessible seating should notify Siegel Center staff upon arrival. Any other accommodations for students or guests should also be shared with usib@vcu.edu for undergraduate students, or gouldmana@vcu.edu for graduates as far in advance as possible.

You may attend both, either, or neither ceremonies. The VCU university-wide commencement will be held at 9 a.m. on May 15th virtually. This will be a larger ceremony, and individual graduates will not be recognized. The School of Business Commencement will individually recognize each graduate in a more intimate setting.

This ceremony will look significantly different than previous graduation ceremonies. All graduates and guests are required to wear a mask at all times during the event. In order to limit prolonged congregation, graduates will not be allowed to process in and will be asked to find their seats at the beginning of the ceremony. We are unable to offer a physical copy of a commencement program, but will have a virtual program available prior to the event. After the event, graduates are not allowed to congregate and must exit the venue.

The Siegel Center does not have any storage areas for personal items of graduates. Graduates will need to store any personal items near their seats and are encouraged to bring as little as possible with them to the ceremony.

Photo Specialties is the graduation photographer for the VCU School of Business Graduate Programs Commencement. Each graduate will have their photo taken as they arrive on the stage, as well as have the opportunity to have their photo taken in front of a professional backdrop. Please note that graduates are required to wear their mask while crossing the stage, but will be allowed to take a photo without their mask after crossing the stage in a specially designated area.

A color proof, which includes a password for online viewing, will be sent to your current mailing address if you gave consent when submitting an RSVP. You are under no obligation to purchase prints. To receive an email notification the moment your photos are online, please visit www.photospecialties.com to pre-register. If you do not receive a proof within a week of the ceremony, please contact info@photospecialties.com or call 1-800-722-7033.

We believe the ceremony will be fewer than 90 minutes.

Still have questions? Please email usib@vcu.edu if you are an undergraduate student or gouldmana@vcu.edu if you are a graduate student and we will assist.
