Our team of research assistants participates in all aspects of research, from data entry and database construction to observational coding… to working directly with children, adolescents, and families. In addition to hands-on, experiential learning, our team meets weekly to discuss pragmatic aspects of the projects we're working on, learn about theory and empirical research within our Journal Club, and participate in professional development (e.g., workshops on applying to graduate school, constructing a curriculum vitae, etc.). Research Interns also have opportunities to present during our Journal Club and work on individual research and honors projects in their own areas of interest.

This community-based internship is a joint venture between VCU Psychology and the Children's Museum. It focuses on how children develop across early childhood - physically, cognitively and psychosocially. Students will participate in one class meeting per week and complete an internship in Seymour's Living Lab at the museum. In class, we will consider theoretical explanations of learning and development and discuss relevant research. At the museum, students engage in experiential learning activities including: observing children at play; working with museum educators to conduct scientific research demonstrations with children and parents; and conducting research with children and their caregivers. We learn, teach, and "do science" in the context of serving the Richmond community!
