Residency

The VCU Department of Dermatology offers a three-year residency program that leads to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Dermatology. Our program begins with the second post-graduate year (PGY-2), and residents must complete a broad-based clinical year in an ACGME-accredited program or similar program accredited in Canada.

Doctors and staff in a discussion [View Image]Our competitive residency accepts two applicants each year, and we work closely with residents to design a personalized training experience. Rotations and didactics occur primarily at the VCU Medical Center, its associated clinics and the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Residents also have the opportunity to rotate through the offices of community physicians who provide subspecialty training in areas like pediatric care and cosmetic procedures.

We also encourage residents to participate in research during their time at VCU.

Application Requirements

We welcome candidates who have already completed another residency. These applicants must be within four years of graduation from medical school or direct patient care activity, either as an independent practitioner or as a trainee. Please provide documentation of a minimum of three months of direct patient care activity in the U.S. or Canada within the last four years.

For more information regarding selection criteria and eligibility, visit the VCU School of Medicine’s Graduate Medical Education page.
