The VCU Facilities Management Apprenticeship Program provides individuals who are interested in pursuing a career as a skilled tradesman with the opportunity to participate in a four-year program to receive structured, on-the-job training, technical education and related classroom instruction. Apprentices will learn about a variety of codes, safety rules, regulations and procedures; how to properly use tools, read and interpret documentation, and troubleshoot; and gain teamwork and communication skills.
Apprenticeship Program trades are based on the business needs of Facilities Management. Currently, Facilities Management is seeking HVAC technician apprentices.
Apprentices will be hired as full-time university and academic professional employees with a salary and benefits. Apprentices will work with licensed journeymen, their mentors, supervisors and other key employees to receive the skills and knowledge to become skilled in their trade.

Advertisement and recruitment for the Apprenticeship Program begins in late October and is advertised for two weeks. Interviews conclude in December. New apprentices begin work in January and related classroom instruction begins in September.
