Emergency maintenance

Staff, faculty, students and affiliates should report emergency maintenance issues—issues that require an immediate response to avoid potential injury or illness to building tenants and/or damage to university property—to the Physical Plant Customer Service by calling (804) 828-9444.

Examples of emergency requests include:

  • Flooding
  • Security issue (door, lock or window)
  • Significant damage to university property
  • Emergency elevator malfunction (e.g., someone trapped in elevator)

Non-emergency maintenance

Individuals with an active VCU eID can submit non-emergency maintenance requests via the Facilities Self Service. Once a request is submitted, the requesting individual will receive automatically-generated work status email updates. The individual will also receive and is encouraged to complete a customer satisfaction survey once the work is completed.

Examples of non-emergency requests include:

  • Light bulb replacement
  • Clogged toilet, sink or shower (when another is available for use)
  • Pest control
  • Non-emergency malfunctioning elevator (e.g., a button is not working properly)
  • Poor indoor air quality
  • Facility upkeep (e.g., painting, carpentry, roofing and electrical)
