Future HacHers is a 12-hour programming competition for high school girls to develop a software application of their choice. This is the second year of Future HacHers, which will take place on September 21, 2019 at VCU’s East Engineering Building.
Students may work in teams of up to four members. ACM-W at VCU is hosting this hackathon to ignite spirits of girls in grades 9-12 in a contest with no creative boundaries.
8 a.m. – Registration
9 a.m. – Opening Ceremony & Keynote Speech

Who can participate?
A participant must be female and enrolled in high school.
How much does it cost?
This event is free (lunch & dinner included).
Do I need to know how to code?
Nope! This hackathon is perfect for beginners. We have a workshop to teach students MIT App Inventor and mentors available to help teams get started.
What do I need to bring to the event?
Laptop and a Valid ID (learner’s permit, driver’s license, high school ID).
What if I don’t have a laptop?
Don’t worry. We have open MAC labs and tablets for participants to use.
Is this a team event?
Yes. You must either build your own team, or come meet students at the event. We will have a team forming session at the beginning for students who didn’t arrive with a group. Teams should have no more than 4 people.
Will event transportation be available?
No. Please arrange your own transportation to/from the event. There will be no reimbursements for travel.
Will we be working the whole time?
Absolutely not! We’ll have food supplied by our favorite Richmond restaurants – and we’ll have spa time where you can get your nails done, get face paints, and get portrait drawings. In addition, ACM-W will announce hackathon challenges with special monetary prizes.
