Valena Dixon, Director for Special Projects, will offer strategic support to the Institute’s director for general administrative and the program needs, signature events, and serve as the liaison for the Advisory Council; along with supporting the HIGHER Ground program and the Minority Political Leadership Institute.
Prior to joining the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute, Dixon was a Public Administrator and Community Engagement executive with accomplishments in media relations, government affairs, fund development and career and employment services. She has held various leadership positions with the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and Greater Media Cable of Philadelphia. Dixon’s career includes positions in career services and community relations for the Urban League of Philadelphia and educator in Reading, Pennsylvania and Mobile, Alabama.
Dixon serves in volunteer leadership positions with various non-profit organizations which support youth and families. These include Circles RVA, the KLM Scholarship Foundation, and the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a member of the Richmond Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
