About the position

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks an exceptionally innovative, creative, and transformational associate vice president (AVP) for marketing in university relations to join a dedicated staff and leadership team at one of the nation’s premier student-centered, public research universities. The AVP is charged with increasing the institution’s visibility in support of its mission, vision, and goals. The vice president’s (VP) investment in marketing is a top priority for university relations (UR), and the vice president is looking for someone with whom he can work especially closely and effectively. 


The AVP will help manage branding for a university and health system that are grounded in inclusion, empathy, humanity and well-being. This branding is for an institution that not only has an economic and cultural impact on its greater community, but is also transformed to excellence by its diverse student, workforce and health care population. The AVP will be responsible for shaping how we boldly and clearly tell the VCU story while ensuring our storytelling embraces and centers the voices of all our community. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with experience in leading successful integrated marketing campaigns and will understand how marketing and PR work together to amplify the VCU brand. They will have demonstrated a track record in fostering a diverse and inclusive environment through communications/marketing work, operations and interpersonal relationships.
