Jeffrey Kushinka, MD, FACP
[View Image]Dr. Kushinka is the Chair of General Internal Medicine and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the VCU School of Medicine. Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Kushinka received his undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Richmond. He received his MD degree from the VCU School of Medicine in 2002 and stayed at VCU for his residency training in Internal Medicine. He also served as a Chief Resident after completion of his residency, and in 2006 he subsequently joined the faculty at VCU.
Dr. Kushinka’s professional focus is clinical administration and clinical education, with a specific focus on training learners in evidence-based medicine. His prior scholarly work has included publications regarding practicing evidence-based medicine in a primary care setting and publication of team-based learning modules for undergraduate medical education. He routinely serves as a tutor at annual workshops on teaching evidence-based medicine. He has previously served as an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency and as the Internal Medicine Clerkship Director for the School of Medicine. He now focuses on clinical administration and is active in the Association of Chiefs and Leaders in General Internal Medicine, the national organization for leaders in academic General Internal Medicine. Dr. Kushinka’s clinical work spans the breadth of General Internal Medicine, with time spent as an attending physician on the inpatient medical service, as an attending physician in the resident teaching clinic, and as a physician in the faculty group practice.
