Internal Medicine Residency Program
Training Overview: Combined Programs
VCU Medical Center, in partnership with the Richmond VAMC offers a combined five-year Internal Medicine-Emergency Medicine training for two residents per year. For more information about this program, visit the EM-IM Web site.
The Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Program is a four-year program integrating internal medicine and pediatrics, with excellent training in both fields through hospital and ambulatory experiences, leading to dual board eligibility and numerous career options. The Internal Medicine Residency and Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program is a total of four years – three years of training in the categorical Internal Medicine residency before advancing into the one-year Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. This program offers excellent training in both Internal medicine and Geriatric Medicine. The Internal core Medicine curriculum is not altered, but residents are offered additional elective time in geriatrics, with a structure similar to that of other pathways.
