Department: Neuroscience

Education: BS Criminology, Florida State University; BS Behavioral Neuroscience, Western Washington University.

Hometown: Bellingham, WA

Thesis adviser:  Michael Miles, Ph.D., Pharmacology and Toxicology

Research interests: Before coming to VCU, I worked in the fields of Huntington’s disease and schizophrenia on a wide spectrum of projects from behavior to RNAseq. My primary interests are in neuroscience and the mechanisms and treatment of neurological disease. My goal is to apply functional and computational techniques in an integrative approach to investigating brain disease.

Personal bio: I was raised in a military family and grew up moving around the world. I received a BS in Criminology from Florida State University and worked for two years after college before deciding to return to school and pursue medicine. I finished a second bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Neuroscience at Western Washington University and then worked for a year as a research assistant before coming to VCU. I spend my free time exploring Richmond’s amazing restaurant scene and taking spontaneous road trips with my wife.
