Dr. Bean is a pediatric psychologist and Co-Director of the Healthy Lifestyles Center at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. She is a Co-Investigator on our recently-completed REACH trial and Dr. LaRose is a Co-Investigator on her ongoing TEENS+ trial, which is testing the comparative efficacy of two distinct approaches to parental involvement within the context of adolescent weight management.
Dr. Brown is a T32 postdoctoral research fellow at The Johns Hopkins University and the trainee PI of our ongoing HER2 study.
Dr. Evans is an exercise physiologist and associate professor of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at VCU. He is a Co-Investigator on our recently-completed REACH trial in addition to our ongoing Ready SET Health trial, and we collaborate as part of a workgroup focused on energy expenditure and long-term weight loss maintenance.
Dr. Hines is a health equity researcher focused on chronic stress within the context of neighborhoods and the broader social environment. She is a Co-Investigator on our ongoing HER2 and Ready SET Health trials.
Dr. Leahey is a tenured faculty member at the University of Connecticut, where she co-directs the UConn Weight Management Group. She and Dr. LaRose have a longstanding history of collaboration. Dr. Leahey is a Co-Investigator on our ongoing REACH trial, and on Dr. LaRose is a Co-Investigator on her ongoing RISE trial, which is testing a novel behavioral economics mHealth intervention for long-term weight loss in economically disadvantaged adults.
Dr. Perera is a biostatistican specializing in analysis and design of clinical trials, longitudinal data analysis, and psychological/behavioral measurement. He is a Co-Investigator on our ongoing HER 2 and Ready SET Health trials, and we collaborate as part of a workgroup focused on energy expenditure and long-term weight loss maintenance.
Dr. Tate is a tenured faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she directs the CHAI core and UNC Weight Research Program. She and Dr. LaRose have a longstanding history of collaboration, including on the SNAP trial and our recently-completed REACH trial. They are also both collaborating investigators on Dr. Carmina Valle’s IMPACT trial and Dr. Tricia Leahey’s RISE trial.

Dr. Valle is a faculty member in the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a behavioral scientist whose program of research is focused on eliminating cancer disparities. Dr. LaRose is a collaborator on her ongoing IMPACT trial, which is testing a tailored mHealth intervention to promote physical activity among young adult cancer survivors.
Dr. Wickham is a board certified endocrinologist with expertise in the pathophysiology of obesity across the lifespan, and Co-Director of the Healthy Lifestyles Center at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. He is a Co-Investigator on two of our recently-completed trials, REACH and the BMI Project. In addition, he is a Co-Investigator and the Medically-Responsible Investigator on our ongoing VITAL Trial.
