Changing Your Major to Psychology

Welcome! We are excited you are interested in changing your major to psychology. In order to do so, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Email psyugrad@vcu.edu with the subject “Change of Major,” to receive a link to view an online change of major orientation.
  2. Copy down your code word (that you received from the online orientation video).
  3. Complete the Change of Major Google form at the end of the orientation video to select an appointment time.

If a student wishes to change their major back to Psychology, they do not have to complete the Change of Major process again. The advisor can submit the form on the student’s behalf.

Minor in Psychology

A minor in psychology consists of 18 credits in psychology, including PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology; one course from each of the four content areas: Developmental, Social/Personality, Physiological/Learning and Self-development/Applied Psychology; and one additional course. PSYC 201 Career Development in Psychology cannot be used to meet this requirement. At least nine of the 18 credits must be taken at VCU.
