Icograda Design week in Qatar will bring together practitioners, scholars and students across design disciplines, cultures and regions to build bridges, raise awareness of the importance and promise of collaboration, and create bonds necessary to achieve the full potential of design in the Arabian Gulf.
Collaboration is a combined effort resulting in the deepening of inter-relationships and shared knowledge. Design is now considered a team endeavor where collaboration is crucial to achieve innovative results that are inclusive of cultures and mediums. Designers are crossing boundaries and have become part of creative teams of an interdisciplinary nature that address broader issues of communication, style, space, systems thinking, cultural identity and commerce and have also become instrumental in teams that affect change on a global level.
Mousharaka: Icograda design week in Qatar will be composed of two main sessions. The Education Symposium running February 28th to March 2nd, will enable educators to share research, pedagogy, and new thinking. Mousharaka will engage students in two-day design workshops culminating in an exhibition of the best work. The Professional Conference running March 2nd through March 5th will present prominent speakers who will share their perspective on design and design collaborations.
Mousharaka will launch Design Debate Doha—an opportunity for the design community to address an important global design issue in the debate format.
Halim Choueiry, Vice President, Icograda said, “This is THE opportunity for designers in the Arab world to come together and both learn from each other and teach one another. Collaboration in design has the long-term potential to significantly revolutionize the design industry, impact business functionality and improve the lives of ordinary people. I hope all professionals in the business, graphic, advertising, film, theater industry take time to attend this major conference happening in Qatar.”
This is the first time Icograda is hosting its Design week in the Middle East. “The fact that VCUQatar was chosen as the host location for the first design week in the middle east only affirms our reputation as a regional hub in the gulf for world-class design endeavors. Qatar is leading the region through its amazing transformation and February is the perfect time for designers to come together and collaborate for the next generation of design endeavors in the Middle East. I am personally very excited about Mousharaka and I look forward to a string of FIRSTs for the region,” proclaimed Donna Duffett, VCUQatar Events Manager.
