Donte Sharpe

My name is Donté Sharpe. I serve as the Coordinate for Leadership & Student Organizations within the Division of Student Affairs here at VCU. I enjoy using my positivity to empower our students to be the best version of themselves. During my 8 years of service here at VCU, I have been able to utilize my technical skills to develop training for our student organization leaders, such as the All-In-One platform that was through VCU Blackboard. I was also instrumental in helping to build RamsConnect through CampusGroups as the premiere student engagement platform here at VCU. I graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor's Degree in Technical Writing, and from Regent University with a Master's of Education in Student Affairs.

I've been working for VCU for the past 8 years. My primary focus has been in student organization development & finance. I consider myself a relationship builder, team player and dedicated employee. I believe that by serving on the Staff Senate, I would play an important role in creating collaboration with our staff & opportunities to support. If given the opportunity, I will be glad to contribute my time & efforts to the Staff Senate.

Amanda Simmons

I have worked for VCU for over 5 years now within the Department of Recreational Sports. I have been given multiple opportunities for advancement and am fortunate to work closely with professional staff members who oversee Facility Operations & Events, Aquatics & Risk Management, Housekeeping, and Memberships. Our team collectively supervises the majority of our department's student staff and hourly employee team.

I am interested in serving on the Staff Senate so I can be an advocate for change university-wide, assist in effective communication for items that impact the staff, provide opportunities for growth and development, and network with individuals across campus. I value feedback and the perspective of others, and will not hesitate to bring forth concerns or recommendations from fellow staff members to make VCU a healthier and happier place to learn, work and grow.

Richard Johnson

I am currently serving as a Fiscal Technician for FSC with the Division of Student Affairs. Early in my career decisions I knew I wanted to work for VCU. At that time, I wasn’t sure exactly why, I just knew I wanted to work for VCU. So, 18 years ago I began my career path with VCU, starting in a Data Entry position and to present day I have worked in 4 Departments including 8 years in Procurement Services.

I have always wanted to find a way to be involved in more than just my daily work routine and I believe I have found that in the VCU Staff Senate. I am always an advocate for change and the Staff Senate would be a great way to start. Through my years at VCU, of course I have experienced some highs and some lows but with the lows I have always found myself trying to find ways to improve those lows. I have found myself being very vocal within departments I have served to make changes for the better and sometimes felt like we as employees are just not being heard.

My desire to serve on VCU Staff Senate is simple, I want to serve my peers and reassure them they are heard.

Jair Lecky

Hello, my name is Jair Lecky, and I would like to serve on this upcoming school year's VCU Staff Senate. Coming from Woodbridge, VA, I first arrived at VCU in 2015 to start my undergraduate time where I double majored in Social Work and Psychology. Afterwards, I joined the school of Education, and am now working on a Master’s degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in Student Affairs. I had various roles working with VCU during my time as an undergraduate student, but started working for VCU full time in 2019 in the Department of Residential Life and Housing (RLH) as an Assistant Hall Director. All of these experiences have given me a special connection to Richmond. I have a passion for serving our students, and in my free time I enjoy singing/writing music, cooking, playing video games, and working out.

Serving on Staff Senate would help me continue my devotion to advocacy. My experience being a student, along with being a full time staff member gives me great insight into the culture of the university, and needs of staff members. I would not solely want to be someone that helps solve issues, but also someone that enacts a type of systemic change that empowers individuals to find their own voice to advocate in the areas that they would like to influence. Though VCU is a university that I have come to love, I cannot ignore the areas of improvement that we can work on in order to make our campus environment evolve into a more equitable and safe space for all staff members. If given a spot on Staff Senate, I vow to put the needs of fellow staff members first, and be a passionate voice for positive change.
