Dedicated to the support and encouragement of responsible, independent student media organizations that connects, explores and enriches the lives of the university’s many constituencies.
We operate on a model of individual responsibility and professional standards instead of censorship and administrative control. We promote the values of integrity, tenacity, creativity and honesty in the pursuit of excellence.
The Student Media Board condemns the actions of those who stole and discarded copies of The Commonwealth Times this week. This act of censorship is nothing short of an attack on the First Amendment. It must be dealt with swiftly. The CT, and all independent student media, is essential to the VCU community. We commend the journalists for the integrity, tenacity, courageousness and professionalism they have displayed while dealing with this situation. To Executive Editor Georgia Geen and her staff: Don’t let up.
