The VCU Student Media Center (SMC) houses various media outlets all run and produced by students as student media organizations.

We offer opportunities for involvement in a variety of interests.

The Commonwealth Times

The Commonwealth Times, established in 1969, is VCU's award-winning, student-run newspaper. Articles cover news, sports, opinion and culture. Print editions hit campus stands weekly and online articles publish frequently at

WVCW Radio

The student-run radio station features an eclectic mix of indie and specialty music, talk shows and award-winning local music video series like the Chalkboard Sessions. The station broadcasts online 24/7 at and on our app.

Pwatem Literature & Art Journal

You might remember Pwatem as Poictesme but, did you know the name comes from the fantastical land created by novelist James Branch Cabell? The student-run journal has showcased the literary and artistic works of VCU students for more than a decade. The journal, published annually in print, is also online at

The student-run features magazine covering the fashion, art, music and culture worlds at VCU and in Richmond. Published annually in print and updated regularly online at

River City Fashion Uprising (RCF)

The online-only, student-run fashion and style website reports local events but also details style trends while uncovering local design talent. Features available at
